But if so could somebody describe in general terms what functionality is missing in the cut-down version of Garageband that runs on iPhone/iPad versus the full version that runs on a Mac ?
I just got some books on Garageband (I think they're geared to the Mac version) and wanted to see if it was worth learning it for mobile sketching purposes.
And I was wondering before wasting time with the books how much of the stuff covered in them would simply not be applicable to the limited version that works on the iPhone/iPad. It might be very frustrating if I read about some function in the book only to find its been cut out of the iPhone/iPad. (I do not own a Mac). Exactly how much difference is there and how crippled is the cut-down version ?

Jan 27, 2013 Importing into ipad Garageband I found a way to import tracks into the ipad garageband by simply copying the aif files into the.band file (right click on the.band file and click show package contents). On the ipad, create a few 1 second recordings 2. Save the file and export it into itunes so you can copy the.band file out 3. Sustain: You can toggle sustain on and off with the Tab key. Black and White Keys: These are the keys you’ll use to create your melody. Garageband presents them in a way that corresponds to a single octave (C3 to C4 by default) on a Piano keyboard. Octave: Use the Z and X keys to shift octaves for lower or higher pitched notes. You’ll need to go to your overall iPad Settings and scroll down until you can see the GarageBand app in the list on the left. Tap on the GarageBand icon to see the settings for that app and then turn on Keyboard Note Labels. Use the Notepad to write chords, lyrics and notes.
